2nd Grade
Second Grade
In second grade at Skyview Elementary, we focus on fostering a growth mindset, helping students feel safe and ready to learn. Using the Character Counts pillars and Teaching with Love and Logic, our teachers guide students in building positive character traits, developing problem-solving skills, and becoming more independent both academically and socially. Students are encouraged to ask questions, seek clarification, and learn from mistakes to build confidence.
This year, students transition from learning how to read to reading to learn. Hands-on activities keep them engaged and curious, while the curriculum, based on Colorado State Standards, helps them grow in reading, writing, math, and science. Key topics include responsible citizenship, civic duties, historical timelines, and scientific concepts like states of matter and plant growth. In math, students will focus on place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication foundations, measurement, time, money, and shapes.
By year’s end, students will become confident communicators, expressing their ideas clearly. This will be a year of growth, exploration, and collaboration, empowering every student to succeed.
